landscapes that harbour the dead
landscapes that harbour signs of nuclear devastation
collapsed tunnels or wounded landscapes
let them be
let them be like that
let them absorb life
tell of them in their substrate and their proliferations
our planet is a living organism and is covered with wounded landscapes, landscapes that bear visible signs of their attacks, wars, climatic changes, degradation of materials, or attacks on the energies that we humans think we need to survive. humans dig and change the movements of the earth, dig into its layers; thus wounded landscapes are created. in some, spirits dwell, breathing into the landscape or into time and leaving their traces. some landscapes change or are destroyed by the earth's interior or the movement of the earth's plates, while gases and liquid substances rise to the surface and create tsunamis, others are excavated, undermined and their raw materials are extracted and transported elsewhere. the resulting material is redistributed above ground, arranged, new landscapes are created, while others are covered over. at the same time, more gases are formed in the underground holes.
at the centre of haunted landscape/s are volcanoes, open-cast mines, mines as endangered landscapes and their myths, stories or experiences.
it is about our planet, how we understand it and live with it.
it is about huge transformations of environments and their global impact.
it is about wounded or poisoned landscapes and their healing.
it is about traces of ghosts and monsters that inhabit these landscapes and their influence on the surrounding communities of human and non-human actors.
haunted landscape/s wants to encounter these landscapes, experience them, understand the material, changes, connections, histories and myths of different terrains and translate them into choreographic performative work or installative formats. encounters with and narratives of places become choreographies, lecture performances or installations. movements become performative condensations in dialogue with relics or witnesses and ghosts of the landscapes visited. voices of human and non-human inhabitants become scenic events, perhaps even choirs. |

PROJECTS of haunted landscape/s:
haunted landscape/s is a multi-format series by claudia bosse through and with different landscapes. LANDSCAPE/S / in october 2023 the lecture performance by claudia bosse took place as part of the project celebrating trouble. choreographic convention. in timișoara (romania) - an installative expansion with different dimensions of time, space and living together about (performative) thinking and choreographic practice with, in or as landscapes. haunted landscape/s / in may 2024, the eponymous and multi-format series along 2024 began as a composition of images, bodies, sounds and movements in a construction field in aspern seestadt. as a performance, first outdoors on a fallow field, then in the seestadt studios, claudia bosse, together with dancers, movement choirs with participants from theatercombinat's public performance school PPS and jugend am werk, the indonesian artist irwan ahmett and live sounds by günther auer, opened up wounds and distortions with our planet. entanglement with a haunted forest / claudia bosses installation opened mahler forum 2024 on 15 june 2024 with a musical commentary by günther auer and takes the series about wounded landscapes into the forest around around gustav-mahler-komponierhäuschen in maiernigg on carinthia's lake wörthersee. the artistic installation between the built, the grown, the present and the past is accessible until the end of october. haunted landscape/s - about inner and outer landscapes / in the field research project by claudia bosse as part of impulstanz, which moves back to the fallow field in aspern seestadt, relationships between landscape/s, physical articulations, organisms and different cultural approaches to landscape/s are questioned and researched. haunted landscape on an unseen wasteland / from the end of august, a series of urban interventions will begin on an area in the 10th district of vienna between alfred-adler-straße and karl-popper-straße. from the end of august, the remaining urban space will be worked on, with people and materials, between rails, streets and houses, as an evocation of unseen landscapes. visual, musical and performative interventions will take place in the twilight. haunted landscapes or the breathing out of earth / the multi-format series about wounded landscapes will come together at the end of october in co-production with tanzquartier wien.
the haunted landscape/s series was created as part of the 2022-2025 concept funding programme by stadt wien kultur, the federal ministry of arts and culture, public service and sport, with the support of the district of donaustadt, mahler forum 2024, KÖR Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Wien and in cooperation with belvedere 21, impulstanz, jugend am werk, wien 3420 and ÖBB. |
the cycle ORGAN/ismus - poetics of relations combines modules, motives and methods for the realization of different artistic formats and at the same time wants to build or expand structures. because we can only realize those works for which we are able to find or invent structures. |
